Getting around
Car rental, at our rate
Sámara is walkable. Everything around it is not — the waterfalls, the other beaches, the Saturday market two towns over. Most guests want a car for at least part of the stay.
We have an account with National, so our guests rent at a negotiated rate rather than the walk-up price. Tell us your dates and where you want to collect the car, and we set the reservation up under our account.
The car is National's and so is the contract you sign at the counter — we are not a rental agency. What we bring is the rate, and someone here who knows the person to call if anything goes wrong with the car halfway through your stay.
What we would tell you before you book
- The road to Sámara is paved the whole way; a small car is fine most of the year.
- A 4x4 earns its price if you are staying up a hill or coming in the wet season.
- Book early for December and Easter — the island runs out of cars, not just rooms.
- Take the insurance seriously in Costa Rica; the mandatory cover is not optional and it is not included in the headline price anywhere.
