A bay that stays a town
Sámara sits inside a reef-protected bay on the Nicoya Peninsula, which is why the water stays calm enough to learn to surf in and warm enough to swim in all year.
It has stayed a working town rather than a resort strip: a couple of paved streets, a Saturday market, fishermen on the sand at dawn, and enough restaurants to eat somewhere different every night for a week.
